About Us

The CCGVP is a non-partisan organization that does not support any candidate for elective office. As an organization, we neither endorse or oppose candidates.

Our Story: A few concerned citizens in the Charlottesville area got together to talk after the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook. We subsequently decided to organize. We call ourselves the Charlottesville Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention. Since our inception, we have focused on doing, rather than just talking. We meet monthly to share information and plan our events.

In recent years we have joined with other like-minded organizations: The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, The Charlottesville area League of Women Voters and Moms Demand Action, the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, several local churches including Westminster Presbyterian Church (Charlottesville) and Sojourners UCC (Charlottesville), and the Presbytery of the James, headquartered in Richmond. Most recently, we have been working with John Hopkins University and two new local initiatives: The B.U.C.K. Squad https://www.bucksquad911.org/and YOGO Alex-Zam.com. We believe the more we work together, the more change we will see!

We would love to have you join us.
